The Korea Automobile Insurance Repair Research & Training Center (KART), established in 1992
as a subsidiary of KIDI, conducts a wide range of research to improve automotive insurance
industry and safeguarding consumer rights. Through a broad spectrum of research initiatives,
KART plays a pivotal role in shaping industry standards and practices.
Damageability & Repairability Insurance Group Rating
- Insurance group ratings are based on damageability and repairability of vehicles. KART conducts
15km/h and 10km/h crash tests on new vehicles according to RCAR test protocols.
Safety
- KART conducts advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) research including autonomous
emergency braking (AEB) and parking assistance system (PAS), to enhance vehicle safety.
- KART has provided traffic accident injury risk analysis services for suspected overtreatment cases
to support the appropriateness of insurance payments for minor injuries.
Repair Time Schedule & Repair Technology
- Standardized repair time schedules for both domestic and imported vehicles are developed by KART
to ensure fair and transparent repair cost calculations
- As automotive industry evolves towards electric and autonomous vehicles, KART is at the forefront
of researching new repair technologies to accommodate advanced materials and complex vehicle
architectures.
AOS (Automobile repair cost On-line Service)
- AOS is a repair cost estimation system used by insurers, repairers and auto-parts dealers. Over 80%
of vehicle claims are processed through AOS. In 2020, KART developed an AI-based repair cost
estimation system, AOS Alpha.
Training
- KART offers various automotive courses including advanced automotive technologies, body
structure repair, claim settlement, and insurance fraud detection. These programs are designed to
meet the evolving needs of the insurance industry, repair shops and other relevant stakeholders.
Accreditation of Non-OEM Auto Parts
- KART promotes the use of accredited non-OEM auto parts and recycled parts by developing a robust
supply infrastructure.
