Common Purpose

The Research Council for Automobile Repairs is an international organization that works towards reducing insurance costs by improving motor vehicle damageability, repairability, safety and security.

Membership

RCAR members are research centres either supported by insurers or with close ties to insurers.  Current membership includes 24 research centres in 17 countries.  All continents except Africa are represented.

Joint Investment

Each year RCAR members spend 55-60 million US dollars on research to reduce the cost of insurance claims for injuries, vehicle damage and theft - an important investment because insurance companies worldwide pay out huge sums of money for claims.  To help control costs insurers have established research centres that find ways to make motor vehicles safer, less damageable, easier to repair and harder to steal.  Such efforts directly benefit the motoring public as well as insurers.

Information Exchange & Co-ordination

Even though insurance systems, vehicle fleets and highways differ from country to country, RCAR members worldwide face similar issues and challenges.   RCAR provides a forum for members to exchange research findings, information and strategies.  RCAR's Secretary General maintains contact among members and other interested parties worldwide.
